Eating Protein, Is It Safe?

Welcome to the first of many 'The More You Know' blogs - Where we will simplify fitness-related topics and studies for you to learn from.

Should we be eating or supplementing protein?

The study's on Protein being Good/Bad for you and your Kidneys.

The Study (linked below) looks at the effects of high protein diets on our kidneys and liver. You may have heard the media say high protein is bad for your kidneys and we should supplement it, I know I have and so has my parents, I hear about it a lot. "You know it's bad for you having all that protein, you will break your kidneys". #stillnotbroken

As far as they are concerned, they are only looking out for us based on what they heard in the media, but I'm here to tell you that it's completely safe to have a high-protein diet. The study followed people over the course of 2 years on a high protein diet and ran tests on liver and kidney function. There are no bad markers for any health concerns.

They were consuming a minimum of 2.2grams per kg of body weight, Most were above this.

Biggest Take Away:

Protein isn't a bad thing, it is very useful in muscle gain and maintenance and we shouldn't be scared to take high doses.

As the study recommends 2.2 to 4 grams per kg of body weight.

Below is the study if you would like to read the full ins and outs.
